A cruel and insensitive term used by those who are probably more in need of psychotherapy, and definitely in need of at the minimum, a short course in the social graces. These people strike me as the type who, during their pre- (and post-) pubescent years, spent their leisure time torturing small animals; symptoms, in my opinion, of the underlying disorder they condemn in ‘emos.’ A person who reads the ‘scholarly’ definitions already extant in this ‘dictionary,’ and who suffers from the maladies mentioned has, as a result, found yet another reason (justified or not) to plunge deeper into despair. Emotional pain is no less painful than physical pain; sadly, however, it’s much more difficult to abate its symptoms. These people, per my observations, seem to be more painfully aware of the existential paradox than does a youngster who shelters one’s self in a darkened room, lit only by a PC’s monitor, and who by contrast escapes the vital question by living vicariously (a non-choice, which is *the* existential no-no) within the security of the cybervoid. (NOTE: Existentialism, as most of us know, is a particular flavor of (relativey) recent philosophy. It has as its basic tenet, but one question with which one must initially grapple: ‘Is life worth living?’ All other purported metaphysical questions are merely window-dressing, resolving themselves after that first answer — be it yea or nay) The ‘emo’ has faced the world. Unable to bear its pain, it attempts to relieve it by a (mostly) tried-and-true process — cartharsis (aka, ‘spilling yer guts out’). What makes us sick is what we keep inside; letting it out in a (hopefully) socially innocuous manner helps us heal ourselves. This is the path the ‘emo’ chooses. Those of us who repress our pain, disillusionment, etc. — immersed in a complex, pixelated surreality; sheltered in total anonymity — grow more ill. Please accept my apology for not providing a definition to the dictionary. I would be most gratified if it were considered to be a contribution. As a devotee of Tom and his hardware for many years, I was surprised and disappointed to see such an entry into what I had assumed to be a professional work; especially in light of Tom being a one-time medico (if I am to believe what I have read). Usage: The term ‘emo,’ used by the insensitive to denigrate others with emotional difficulties, has no place anywhere in Tom’s Hardware proper, or any of its subsidiaries.Complete idiots. So called "emotionals" often attempt to get depressed about anything and everything and over react emotionally for no reason other than to be attention whores. They wear their hair down over their face, often looking like it was used to wipe someones butt, or so we assume form the attendant acne that most have because they don't shower. Probably because showering makes them sad that it's wate that the fish could have, or that they can't take their camera in with them or it will be broken so they can't express the emotions that the moving water swells up inside of them with it's radient beauty. They dress absolutly aweful, like a cross between goths and a young avril lavinge. Rightfully they feel that every thinks they suck. This is because they do, but only because they have brought it on themselves. Had they not been emo we wouldn't make fun of them. Despite this, an that fact that they're not, they tend to think of themselves as hardcore and so can cop an attitude when they finally stop crying about how much the world hates them. Usually about how much better they are than everyone because they understand the emotional side of things and we "don't". they dress in drag and so are usually made fun of for being gay. Cause they are.

Usage: 

emo: The blades hurt when i cut me with them, but the blood is so pretty the way it runs! I think i'll take some pictures and write some bad poetry about it. 

Normal person: Freakin' emo whiner, grow a pair! And shut up.
